tai chi

Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese form of exercise, similar in many ways to a martial art, but intended as a tool for both physical and energy health rather than self-defense. It is generally taught to groups, a session looking something like an aerobics class, but consists of slow, graceful turning and stretching movements in a state of deep concentration, which resemble martial arts “forms” done in slow motion. Once Tai Chi is learned, it can be used at home, in a park, or anywhere else.

The movements are believed to be helpful in sensing, working with and improving the flow of Qi (chee) or life energy through one’s own body. Tai Chi does not require a great deal of physical exertion (which means almost no risk of injury compared to other forms of exercise), but still provides a good amount of physical exercise, in addition to the benefits to Qi.

When a session of Tai Chi exercises is completed, a person is left feeling relaxed, focused, and better overall It is also effective for improvement of coordination, pain relief, and can help a number of medical conditions.
