physiotherapy

Physiotherapists, also known as physical therapists, are specialists trained in the movement and mechanics of the body. They are University-educated in human biology, physiology and all other disciplines that contribute to effective pain-free mobility.

Physiotherapy is administered on an individual basis, according to the needs of the patient, and uses a combination of counseling, hands-on manipulation and regular, specialized exercises in order to build or restore physical health.

It is especially useful for recovery from injuries, disease-related disabilities or other impediments to movement. Everyone has seen a scene in a movie in which a physiotherapist encourages a victim of a spinal injury to take their first step out of the wheelchair, for example.

Many physiotherapists also take an integrative approach to healing, in particular by incorporating acupuncture, massage or craniosacral therapy with physiotherapy.
