allergy elimination technique (NAET)
NAET is a method for
treatment of allergies, based on the traditional Chinese theory of energy
flow through the body familiar as the basis for techniques such as acupuncture.
Developed by Dr. Devi Nambudripad in California in the 1980s, it combines
techniques of acupuncture, chiropractic and kinesiology to diagnose and
then permanently cure allergies.
Allergies are said to be caused when the energy of an allergenic substance
reacts badly with the energy of the body, resulting in a blockage of energy
flow. To treat the allergy, the patient holds the allergenic substance
in his or her hand, and the therapist then makes chiropractic adjustments,
followed by the stimulation of acupuncture points. The result of the treatment
is then assessed by testing the strength of the muscle associated with
the meridian of energy flow that is blocked, as in applied kinesiology.
The treatment is said to initialize a process of desensitization to the
allergen in question over the next 25 hours, after which the allergy should
be completely eliminated.
While various studies of the effectiveness of NAET are underway, none
have been completed. In considering use of the technique, one should be
aware of the limited research available on NAET. It is important to bear
in mind the potential for severe, potentially fatal allergic reactions
should the technique prove to be less than completely effective.
