exercise Exercise is the simplest, cheapest and easiest method of maintaining physical, mental and emotional health. When most people hear the word exercise, they think of running, barbells and gym machines, but it can be as simple as regular, brisk walks. Numerous recent studies have shown that walking, riding a bike or any other relatively leisurely physical activity for thirty minutes a day has a remarkable effect on cardiovascular health, helps prevent osteoporosis, strengthens the immune system, improves mood and promotes weight loss. Light exercise can also be incorporated into any everyday physical activity, such as cleaning or gardening. Other forms of exercise help with other problems; for example, light regular weight training can reverse many of the physical effects of aging, stretching can alleviate the symptoms of arthritis, and Yoga can help chronic back pain. The benefits of exercise are actually greatest for people in the worst shape; but moderation should always be used, as people often injure themselves by overdoing it (which can be discouraging), and an excessive amount of exercise can be detrimental to overall health. It is always a good idea to consult a physician before beginning an exercise program. articles
