counseling

Counseling has existed in one form or another for all of human history, from simple advice from friends and family to priests to modern psychoanalysts. It is the confidential discussion of the mental and emotional state of the patient with a therapist in an attempt to discover the causes and alleviate the symptoms of psychological problems. Such problems and their causes are often hard to identify and understand, and difficult to “cure”.

Most often the simple act of discussing things with a therapist on a regular basis can resolve a problem. Psychological counseling can also be an important component in overcoming physical symptoms caused by stress, anxiety or depression, or for help with substance abuse problems.
