about applied kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology is a method of diagnosing a variety of conditions through assessment of weakness in healthy muscle tissue, incorporating ideas about nutrition, internal systems and energy flow through acupuncture meridians. The technique was discovered in 1964 by Dr. George Goodheart, who noticed that massage of the attachment points of the muscle in question seemed to restore strength to the muscle. Weakness in a particular muscle or muscle group is said to be symptomatic of a problem in the organ associated with that muscle. The problem thus detected is caused by an imbalance of energy in the organ due to nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, bone or joint problems or other sources. The practitioner further tests the problem by having the patient chew or hold in their hand various foods and then testing for changes in the strength or weakness of the muscle.

Studies of applied kinesiology have found little evidence to support the claimed associations between muscles, foods and organs but despite the lack of scientific evidence there is a growing interest in this relationship.

Applied kinesiology should probably be used as a complement to other methods of diagnosis.
