Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the United States. Although the cause is not known, most researchers believe — based on the latest research involving prostate cancer treatments and prostate cancer information- that changes in testosterone metabolism and/or bodily responses to testosterone are involved.

Throughout the world, autopsy reports show that evidence of microscopic prostate cancer is extremely common in older men. However, most men with this microscopic disease are never diagnosed with, nor do they die from, enlarged prostate cancer.

Unlike the dormant form of the disease, the incidence of potentially life-threatening enlarged prostate cancer varies greatly around the world. Researchers believe that, based on the latest research and current prostate cancer information, some factors - possibly involving diet or lifestyle issues - determine the risk of having potentially life-threatening enlarged prostate cancer.

American men are at high risk of being diagnosed with this enlarged prostate cancer, and African-American men are at particularly high risk, for reasons thatare not completely clear. A family history of enlarged prostate cancer increases the risk to a limited extent. Farmers, mechanics, tire and rubber manufacturing workers, sheet metal workers and workers exposed to cadmium have also been reported to be at increased risk.

Symptoms

Enlarged prostate cancer usually grows slowly, initially producing no symptoms. Later in the course of the disease, overlapping symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia - a very common benign condition - may appear. Some of these symptoms include frequent urination (including having to urinate more frequently at night), painful urination, a weak urinary stream, dribbling after urination and a sensation of incomplete emptying.

In addition to this pre-prostate cancer information, blood may appear in the urine. None of these symptoms are specific to enlarged prostate cancer - the diagnosis of this disease and exploration of prostate cancer treatments require the help of a doctor who has more knowledge then the average individual about prostate cancer information.

If prostate cancer spreads to a distant part of the body, it's most often found in bone, a condition that may cause bone pain. Prostate cancer information and research show that late stages of enlarged prostate cancer are associated with severe weight loss, untreatable fatigue-inducing anemia and finally, death.
